Top Tier Firms Short-Listed for Early Works

A range of private construction firms have shown strong interest in delivering the expansion of Sydney’s light rail network.

The CBD and South East Light Rail project consists of two contracts:

  • the early works contract
  • a Public Private Partnership (PPP), subject to value for money, for the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the new CBD and South East Light Rail.

Eight top tier construction firms registered to tender for the early works contract. Three bidders have been shortlisted and will now be invited to tender:

  • Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd
  • Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd
  • A joint venture between Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd and Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia Pty Ltd.

The early work will include upfront activities needed to manage or relocate buried utilities such as water, telecommunications, gas and electricity cables and pipes.

Subject to planning approval, early works construction will begin later this year and the CBD and South East Light Rail project will then take five to six years to complete.
