What is happening?

Testing work begins:

The next phase of testing work starts Tuesday 9 April to Thursday 9 May 2019.

This work is focused on tram stops and signal and communications systems work between Randwick Terminus and High Cross Park substation. The trams will be tested between the Randwick Stabling Yard and along tracks from Anzac Parade at Lang Road to Randwick Terminus on High Street. Night work will normally take place between 6pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday and will only occur on Friday and Saturday nights when required. Affected stakeholders will be notified.

As part of the testing and commissioning phase, all lights are now on at the Randwick Stabling Yard and along Alison Road, Wansey Road and all the way to High Street. All lights will be tested using timers, operating from dusk until dawn.

Final changes to Traffic at High St and Wansey Rd:

To prepare for the operation of the CBD and South East Light Rail, the final traffic arrangements for High Street and Wansey Road are being introduced in stages.

From 5am Monday 15 April 2019, the following traffic changes will be implemented as the permanent arrangement:
• The Wansey Road and High Street intersection will operate under traffic control signals.
• High Street will be open to westbound motorists only from Botany Street to Wansey Road. Motorists will be able to continue their journey west along High Street or turn right into Wansey Road to continue northbound to Arthur Street.
• Only vehicles under 9 metres in length will be permitted to turn into Wansey Road from High Street, from either direction.
• Wansey Road will be two way between Arthur Street and High Street. Southbound motorists will be able to turn right into High Street westbound.
• Wansey Road will continue to be open to southbound traffic only between Alison Road and Arthur Street.
• The shared pedestrian and bike path on the western side of Wansey Road between Alison Road and High Street will be open to the public.
All other traffic conditions will remain the same. Footpaths and pedestrian access into buildings will not be affected. Traffic control will be in place to assist in these end state arrangements.

How does this affect me?

  • You may experience some noise and vibration during this work. Noise monitoring will take place during this period.
  • Temporary lane closures along Alison Road and High Street and pedestrian detours may be in place during these activities. Where required, traffic control will be in place to safely direct motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Local stakeholders will be informed prior to work start.
  • Your usual route may have to change based on the above traffic changes.
