Light rail work update for Kensington and Kingsford from 2 Nov 2018 - 2 Feb 2019

The lightrail project is currently well underway, with lots of progress in recent months. Already, over 24,300 metres of track has been laid, with 5,955m of this in Kensington and Kingsford.

Progress to date:

  • Track installation has been completed from Alison Road to the Nine Ways, Kingsford. Track installation is nearing completion at the Kingsford Terminus.
  • Foundations have been constructed at the Kensington (north of Todman Avenue) and Kingsford (south of Strachan Street) Light Rail Stops.
  • Kerb and stormwater installation has been finalised from Harbourne Lane to Rainbow Street, Kingford.
  • Stormwater, footpath and kerb on the western side of Anzac Parade has been constructed from Abbotford Street to Goodwood Street.
  • Anzac Parade bus layovers have been constructed at UNSW.
  • 12 of the 60 light rail vehicles have arrived into Randwick Stabling Yard.

Upcoming work in Kensington:

  • Work is underway on the light rail stop on Anzac Parade,between High Street and Barker Street.

The following activities will be carried out during construction hours, weather and site condition permitting. Lightrail standard construction hours are Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm, and Saturday between 8am and 5pm. some work is scheduled outside of these hours to avoid high daytime traffic volumes.
