Light Rail work in the CBD and South East from Friday 4 August

Please be advised of the following traffic changes taking place to facilitate construction of the CBD and South East Light Rail from this weekend, weather permitting

 

Market Street, between York Street and Pitt Street from 10pm Friday 4 August to 5am Monday 7 August:

  • From 10pm Friday to 5am Saturday, one lane only will be open to general traffic
  • Between 5am and 10pm on Saturday, two lanes only will be open to general traffic.
  • From 10pm Saturday to 5am Monday, one lane only will be open to general traffic.
  • From 5am Monday to 10pm Friday, two lanes only will be open to general traffic.
  • Access for pedestrians will be maintained. At times, sections of footpath may be closed and alternative access will be provided.

 

Liverpool Street and George Street intersection closure to general traffic, from 10pm Friday 4 August to 5am Monday 7 August 2017:

  • George Street will also be closed to general traffic between Goulburn Street and Bathurst Street. Local access will be permitted under traffic management.
  • Left and right turns from George Street into Goulburn Street will be permitted.
  • Local access into Liverpool Street will be permitted from Pitt Street and from Sussex Street under traffic management.
  • All pedestrian crossings around the intersection of George and Liverpool Streets will be relocated approximately 20m away from the intersection during works.
  • The cycleway on Liverpool Street will be closed between Pitt Street and Kent Street. Cyclists are encouraged to dismount and use the relocated pedestrian crossing to cross the intersection.
  • A taxi zone on Liverpool Street will be temporarily closed over the weekend. Alternative taxi zones are located on Pitt Street and Goulburn Street.
  • Motorist travelling to the Western Distributor are encouraged to use Goulburn Street.
  • Motorists travelling to the east of the city from the Harbour Bridge should use the Cahill Expressway or Grosvenor Street and Bridge Street.

 

Hunter Street will be closed to general traffic between Pitt Street and George Street from 10pm Friday 4 August to 5am Monday 7 August 2017:

  •  Local and emergency vehicle access will be permitted on Hunter Street and De Mestre Place via Pitt Street.
  • Local vehicles will be permitted to exit via George Street and/or Margaret Street.
  • Margaret Street will remain open at George Street.

 

 High Street at Eurimbla Avenue traffic switch from 6pm Friday 4 August 2017:

  • The construction compound currently located on the southern side of High Street, near Eurimbla Avenue, will be relocated to the northern side.
  • Vehicle access for local residents to and from driveways will be maintained at all times. Traffic controllers will be in place to assist residents to move through the compound to access their properties.

 

 Anzac Parade between Barker Street and Rainbow Street traffic changes from 10pm Friday 4 August 2017:

  • The construction compound will divide the two northbound lanes on Anzac Parade from Rainbow Street to Harbourne Lane, leaving three lanes of traffic on the eastern side.
  • Traffic on Strachan Street and Middle Street will not be able to make east and west through movements.
  • The right turn from Strachan Street into Anzac Parade southbound will no longer be permitted, however the right turns from Middle Street and Borrodale Road into Anzac Parade will remain open.
  • The right turn from Anzac Parade northbound into Barker Street eastbound will remain open.

 

Where required, traffic management will be in place to assist motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to move safely around the work. Take extra care if walking, driving or cycling in the area and follow instructions from the traffic controllers. Local access and emergency services access will be maintained.

There will be more bus and traffic changes in the South East area as Light Rail construction continues.
